Predator Infernus

Building a predator Infernus to use as a Baal Predator in my army.

This tank has an unique build pattern where you must attach the roof before attaching the outer side panels.

There is some slight warping to those panels, so using a blow dryer to warp back to normal or holding it really firmly when gluing it into place is necessary.

There is a small cast flaw where the casting tails (what ever they are called) are attached. This hole was on both panels so I think that it will be normal on all of these tanks. It's really in a bad place.

So after cleaning all the parts I assemble the model up to the point of painting.

I pin the front ram into place. This model has a better connection than the GW tanks, as it runs flush to the main body at more angles, but wanted to be safe and pin it.

Ready for paint after putting some damage on it.

Horus Heresy Goodies.

Forgeworld just put out four new units for pre-order today, but what I am excited about is the new Sons of Horus. These guys are cool looking! The modified mark IV armor, especially the helmets are awesome. I guess that I will have to get some of these.

Check them out at Forgeworld

Heresy Abound!

Just got an awesome newletter from FFG that the Dark Heresy 2nd Ed. is in beta testing right now.

Here is what it said: Dark Heresy Second Edition is an upcoming addition to FFG's line  of 40K roleplaying games, and it features more flexible skills, action point-based combat, vehicle rules, and more!

The Beta will be a 337 pg PDF that contains the core mechanics of the 2nd Ed, but leaves out the thematic content and art that will appear in the final printed edition.

You can download the PDF from Drivethrurpg.com or rpgnow.com and receive a $20 discount on the PDF version of the actual book when it is released.

I think that I will be downloading my copy today. More to follow as I get into the beta.

Farsight has arrived!

So I have just finished reading over the new Farsight Enclave supplement book, and I have to say that I am impressed by this. This book continues in the same format as the Iyanden supplement but manages to actually make improvements over Iyanden especially in the rules department. I hope this continues with each one of these supplements come out, as I'm sure there will be more.

The first 66 pages are dedicated to the History of Farsight and starts all the way back to his initiation in the Mont'yr academy as a youth, and that he had a mind that was quickly capable of adapting to change, and could remember just about anything. This sets the tone for how great of commander he will become.

It there breaks into a war with the Arachen (some bug like race) and explains Farsights initial time as a Firewarrior, and then moves into how he was promoted to pilot a broadside and then crisis suit before becoming a commander and studying under Puretide.

After that, the first contact is made with the Orks at Arkunasha and the trials that the Tau have fighting them and how they overcome the Ork menace.

Farsight is ordered to fight against the Imperium of man at Dal'yth in the Damocles Gulf Crusade during the second sphere advance and the re-conquest of the worlds lost after the Imperium left to fight off the Tyranids.

From here Farsight goes rogue and establishes the Farsight Enclave worlds on the coreward side of the Damocles Gulf, and then sets off to fight more against a larger Ork threat than the first time, and the years that it took to eradicate the Orks. During this time Farsight tracks the Orks down to the world of Arthas Moloch where he finds the Dawn Blade and uses it to defeat Daemons on the planet.

With the victory of the Daemons Farsight returns to the Enclave and is troubled by his new findings about the Immaterium. The Dawn Blade turns out to be vampiric like blade that sustains his life until the present time and a new battle starts against Hive Fleet Kraken.

The book goes into great detail of all these things, and really defined Farsight greatly, and brought some awesome fluff that I don't think has really been fleshed out before. This was a great read.

Rules:

Battlesuit Spearhead: XV8 Crisis Teams are troop choices instead of Elite, but you must atleast include 3 models (not including drones). This is great and what I think everyone was expecting.

Ork Hunters: Farsight Enclave unti have Preferred Enemy: Orks in close combat

Ta'lissera Bond: All units must take the bonding knife ritual if they can. This is isn't bad for taking battlesuits as it only adds a few points, but if you take Firewarriors it can add 6 to 12 points a unit.

Signature Systems: Any Character that can take Signature Systems in the Tau Codex must take from a new list in the Farsight Enclave book.

Farsight Commander Team: This replaces the normal Crisis Team bodyguards that Farsight has in the Tau Codex and replaces them with eight independent characters that can be taken as a bodyguard instead. This is pretty cool, but all of the are expensive in points and you probably will never field all of them in a normal game. This is an Apocalypse unit to use in its entirety.

Divergent Destiny: Your army cannot include Aun'Va or Shadowsun!

Allies: Codex: Tau may be used as Battle Brothers, everything else is the same as regular Tau.

Warlord Traits:  There are six new warlord traits to roll for

The Way of the Short Blade: This gives your commander WS5 if he has a battlesuit. Re-roll if he doesn't have.

Echoes of the Grand Master: Gives your commander either Counter-Attack, Furious Charge, Monster Hunter, Stubborn, or Tank Hunter.

The Way of the Broken Sword: Opponent has -1 to reserve rolls.

The Fire Unquenchable: Warlord has Fearless, and all units within 6" have stubborn.

Counter Crisis: Crisis Teams have +1 to reserve rolls.

Through Surety, Destruction: One Use Only, Use at the beginning of your shooting phase, the Warlord and his unit have the Shred rule for the phase.

Signature Systems:

Mirrorcodex: +1 to seize the initiative
at the beginning of each of your turns roll a D6:
1-3 nothing
4 You have Preferred Enemy Space Marines
5 You have Preferred Enemy Space Marines and Impeiral Guard
6 You have Preferred Enemy Everyone

Seismic Fibrillator Node: This can make difficult terrain within 36" and its dangerous terrain instead if you roll a 2+ on a D6 roll.

Warscaper Drone: A drone purchased by a character may be upgraded to a warscaper drone. All models in that unit then have the Move through cover, outflank, and acute senses USR's. Also, and unit outside of its deployment zone treat difficult terrain as dangerous instead.

Fusion Blades: For a commander with twin-linked fusion blaster. Replace the fusion blaster with the following profile.

shooting 18" S8 AP1 Assualt 1, Melta, Twin Linked
assault    _  S8 AP1 Melee, Armourbane, blind, Power Outage : roll a D6 after a melee combat if the fusion blade was used, on a 1 you cannot use the above profile for the rest of the game.

Earth Caste Pilot Array: Battlesuits only, May re-roll 1s in the shooting phase. may re-roll the dice for the nova reactor, but the units WS is 1.

Talisman of Arthas Moloch: 5+ inv save and units within 12" may roll 4D6 for deny the witch and pick the highest.

The last is new missions and stratagems  in the book, but I won't go into them.

City Of Death: There are 7 new stratagems.
Planetstrike: There are 7 new stratagems.
Altar of War: There are 3 new missions.
Echoes of War: There are 4 new missions based off the fluff found earlier in the book.

Final thoughts: I think this book is a must buy for any serious Tau player. The extra fluff and great optional rules make this out to be a really great supplement.

Apocalypse is now!!

So just got my hands on the Apocalypse rule book today and have spent some time looking over it.

This book brings some wonderful things to the table. It starts out by mentioning that players should just bring their armies "read entire collection" and set up with some friends of roughly equal forces and play without worrying about FOC or complete balance points wise. Also allows for Armies on the Allies Matrix that cannot be played together in 40k to be used on the same team.

Afterwards the book goes into planning a Apocalypse game and how to set it up, including breaks. This seems to be really important now as Reserves come in after different scheduled breaks instead of what turn it is. IF the game is really large though the breaks might coincide with what turn it actually is. Before each break is also the time to tally strategic victory points for that "phase" of the game that can be used to purchase strategic assets.

There are 6 new apocalypse missions in the book to use for the games. None of these are mush different than anything we have seen already in the Eternal War missions, but have all the special apoc game rules in the details.

There are also new rules for:

Divine Interventions which vary as to what race you are using and can only be used when certain criteria are meet, like half of your army is dead, or you killed more of the enemy in pts than what they have done to you.

Finest hours are special abilities that can be used by your warlord that can do cool things like give all units in 24" relentless or feel no pain.

Sons of the Primarch are Finest Hours that are used be Chaos and Space Marines depending on what First Founding Chapter they are from (all secondary founding chapters use their first founding primarchs rules).

Unnatural Disasters are massive destructive calamities that can happen during the game, and some of them are powerful enough to kill almost everything on the table. Use is optional for this.

There are also plenty of new formations to use, but now do not cost extra points to use them, you just have to have all the models, and pay the points for those if using points to play. Many of the formations are really cool, and add tons of fluff to the game.

Overall this is a great new rule book and helps spell out how to make an apoc game run smooth for most people that havn't run a few themselves to work out everything themselves. The only issue I have about the book is that some of the units in here are copies of Forgeworld units that have current rules in 6th Ed. books. I feel this could of been space better spent on more varying formations instead of just rules for that model again. I guess there just more apocalypse formations books that we will b getting.

I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars

Apocalypse on the Horizon

By now we all know Apocalypse is coming this weekend. The real questionis it going to be what it needs to be... Playing Apocalpyse up to this point has been like pulling teeth; a long slow process that only leaves you pain and no desire to do it again. Most games would take all day to set and play, usually ending on turn 3 at 4 am in the morning when everyone is too exhausted to continue. Will this new version help alleviate that issue? I hope so, but think that it is just inherit with playing 40k on such a grand scale.
What ways have you played to keep your games of apocalypse moving along so there can actually be a conclusion?

Whats New

Forgeworld gives the Emperor's Children some love this weekend by putting these bad boys up for pre-order. Check them out. I know that I will be getting some.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/EMPERORS_CHILDREN_LEGION_PALATINE_BLADES_SQUAD.html

Now Natfka just put out that The RavenGuard might be getting a codex supplement. If so, it is welcome as new rules make the game better. It will be interesting how well these supplements convey the chapter compared to what Forgeworld is doing in the Horus Heresy in the future.

Farsight supplement in the Horizon

So the new Tau codex supplement is on the way, and most of us saw this coming after Iyanden supplement came out for Eldar.

So what should we expect after the first view of what these supplements should be.

1. Expanded background. There will be lots of information on what we already know about Farsight and how he broke away from the Tau Empire.

2. New rules. Look forward to expanded rules on using an entire battlesuit army. This would make me think hard about what I hate more: Jet pack infantry or Eldar battle focus.

3. Some new missions on historical and Farsight Enclave style of war. These missions are always cool and add more options for doing fluff style battles, and making the game fun.

4. Big price tag. $40 for the Ibook version and $50 for the hard copy when it is released a week after the digital version.

I'm looking forward to this book to see what it offers, and to decide whether or not to continue to support these supplements. I found the Iyanden book to be good, but as most gamers must decide if it is really worth the cost. I always want to say yes based off of my love of the game. However if the supplements start to just recycle too much of the old instead of pushing the storyline forward and offering us more new morsels to latch on to, then what is the point of spending the cash.

Global Campaign fun!

I just wanted to post that my buddy Mike and his group in Santa Cruz is running a global campaign. Take a look at their blog, and join the campaign.

The blog goes live! Hi all. My name is Ryan, and I'm a 40k fanatic and I decided to share my thoughts about this game with as many people as possible through this blog. This is great that I can celebrate the birth of this blog along with America today on the 4th of July.
Thanks everyone that reads this, and look forward to more awesome sauce regarding 40k whether it is about assembly, converting, painting, gaming or just being a dork about anything else 40k related.
